This is a nice small museum. When I visited, it had various dinosaur replicas and the like on display. There are some interactive parts to it as well. I was attending a reception there and the reception space was nice and it provided an interesting ambiance. I think they have done a nice job with their displays and it would be a great place to take children if you want to go someplace different and not have to spend hours getting through it. I'll be interested to see how it further develops and what traveling displays it might have.

The subject says it.There are few exhibits in the free Great Hall, that are worth a visit if you are already in the shopping center. Maybe 15 minutes time. The traveling exhibits are expensive and there are long periods between them. The children's discovery center has an hourly hands on program for $7-8 a person. The website is poorly designed and if you sign up for their email updates, the emails are poorly formed so they don't show well in email programs and they tend to be caught in spam filters.

We purchased a family membership to the museum and have gone there a few times. I would have expected more content from the museum and certainly hope it can maintain itself in expensive Johnson County corridor in which they exist.

The building is a work of art. It is wonderful to walk around it in nice weather outside on the paths. Inside the biggest draws are the replica of a TRex and the computer aided dinosaur creation and interaction. The exhibit is at an extra cost. Please check out what is in the exhibition hall before you come, it may not warrant a visit.

This is a great place to take small kids for about two to three hours. They have an interactive area for kids to have a dinosaur "dig".

We attended the mythical creature exhibit- it was nicely done but not for young children. The discovery area for the children is overpriced for the short time you are allowed there- but has interesting exhibits. Beautifully done and the gift shop is darling.

We walked to the museum after a movie, lured over by the beautiful building. The price was pretty steep for the overall experience. Kids were semi-amused for about an hour upstairs, the man in the kids room was a bit rude. Not sure how they could improve it, but it needs something. Maybe a treasure hunt with a prize at the end, anything to engage the kids who were nonplussed.

Overpriced and underwhelming. $30 for 2 kiddos and 1 adult...in and out in less than an hour without much to show for it. I'd say don't waste your time and definitely don't pay extra for the "exhibits". Won't be open long unless something changes.

You don't have to bring children to enjoy this new museum in south Overland Park. Tucked away in a huge retail/planned living area, this museum is truly a gem. Absolutely stunning building, both inside and out; gorgeous lobby with interesting exhibits (lobby is free) and a huge interactive video screen where you "see" dinosaurs walk right past you. My husband and I got such a kick watching some of the attending children "race" the dinosaurs. The Mythical Creatures special exhibit was......unusual, to say the least! I don't think we've every seen anything quite like it. Well worth the $14/person admission. Not having grandchildren in tow, we couldn't fully experience the Discovery Room upstairs, but the nice attendant let me quietly tour it by myself. This room has dozens of interactive stations with things to explore/magnify/discover. AND there's an entire section with lots of live creatures -- snakes, spiders, lizards, even a baby hedgehog. The gift shop had lots of unique natural history-related items. And there's a café on the premises with delicious turkey sandwiches. Highly recommended.

A brand new and beautiful facility located in a new and diverse shopping area. However, the current exhibit (mythical creatures) was very average at best and very overpriced.

Do not waste your money. It cost $14.00 per adult and was not worth a dime. It was more of an exhibit displaying myths and legends. We felt ripped off.

My husband and I visited the Museum at Prairiefire recently. We don't have children, and so there were not many exhibits that interested us. I think if a family has small (grade-school age or younger) children, they would enjoy the facility more than we did. There are some interactive exhibits; the most attractive to kids seemed to be the ALIVE Interactive screen in the main atrium. There were many girls and boys enjoying themselves as they played with the dinosaurs marching, swimming, and flying across the screen. The ALIVE experience is a hands-on exhibit for kids to practice skills used in archeologic digs.We spent our time in the Exhibition Hall, which was hosting "Mythic Creatures" (from the American Museum of Natural History). It was quite cool to see the reproductions of dragons, griffins, unicorns, Pegasus, and other creatures of mythology. There were short illustrative plaques which drew correlations between these creatures and actual animals (such as the manatee or narwhal). The layout of the exhibit made for easy flow of visitors and logical flow of concepts. Virtually everything in the exhibit was a reproduction (not many actual relics), which allowed for hands-on interaction (again, a plus for the younger visitors).Note for visitors in the near future: parking is pretty scarce. They're working on a lot, but we had to park and walk across gravel and grassy terrain to get to the museum. For anyone with mobility issues, make sure you're let off at the front door and the rest of your party can go park the car.The building itself is lovely and worth a visit just for the architecture. But unless there's another interesting exhibit coming to the museum, I don't think we'll be making a return trip.

Hopefully more is planned. Meanwhile, small children should enjoy the special exhibits and the "Discovery Room".

We visited at an early stage when the facility just opened. It is a beautiful facility and undoubtedly will eventually house more exciting exhibits. We saw a dinosaur exhibit that was, probably average to slightly above average interest level -- but for older kids (because it required reading posted material and watching informational videos. We took cub scouts and that failed to hold the attention of 8 year olds.

It is in a developing area of Overland Park. Was difficult finding a place to park. There is a parking garage nearby but there is nothing to notify you if there is a charge for parking. The outside of the building is stunning. The limited exhibits in the Great Hall are free. There is a charge for the special exhibition. We weren't interested in the exhibition on mythical creatures so we didn't pay the additional charge. I took about 15 minutes to look at the free exhibits. There is a cafe inside.
