During our Staycation in Burnett County, we ventured outside of Siren to The Clover Meadows Winery. One turns off the county road onto a length of dirt/gravel road that leads thru the woods to the tasting room. Being late winter, things were rather damp on the road and the parking lot, but that fits well into the organic earthy feel of the Winery. This mid afternoon we were the only visitors, so got the full attention of the staff and ownership. Clover Meadows produces many varieties of wine made from various elements - fruit, herbs, leaves, honey, etc. into some interesting combinations. Another highlight is the distillery- they produce Brandy and Moonshine! The moonshine must be experienced - it is very smooth and virtually evaporates before leaving the tongue. We purchased two eight wine sampling packages ($5.00 each), along with a couple of bottles of wine as gifts and a bottle of the rhubarb moonshine as a welcome home gift for a snowbird neighbor. The winery operates off the grid and really focuses on its connection to nature. Therefore the Rustic nature of the winery..well... Fits. Recommended.

My wife and I visited this winery in Wisconsin with my brother and sister-in-law. We had no idea what to expect since northwest Wisconsin is not known as wine country. However, we were pleasantly surprised. We drove through deep woods and finally into the vineyard. We were met at the entrance by a friendly horse who roams the grounds and greeted warmly by the staff when we entered the tasting room. Since the weather was warm, we were able to sit outside to taste their wines and have lunch. The wines are a combination of grape wines and fruit wines which run the gamut from dry to very sweet. Each was interesting and many complex. The menu for lunch was simple, but the food was excellent. All organic and homemade. The service was also excellent. We tasted wines all during lunch and the staff were great about helping us pick which ones to try and generous about letting us try some in addtion to the five we paid for in the tasting. After lunch, we got a tour of the premises from Pat, the proprietor. The winery is very much about being off the grid and organic. Pat runs his cars and electrics from distilled fruit juices and fertilizes his vineyards and orchards using the output from his rescue horses. I would very much recommend a visit to Clover Meadow. Be prepared to sit back, relax and enjoy the wines, shines, food and company. Definitely worth the trip.
