The Museum of Woodcarving is a very unique place. The carvings were done by a local resident and depict many scenes from the Bible. It is worth the time to visit.

It was a rainy day so we were looking for something to do. This museum had been recommended. It wasn't worth the $6.50 ticket price. It smelled very musty and was very cold. The "tour" took us about 15 minutes. It's really more a display of one man's work than a museum. We had been hoping for some variety. Everything looks pretty much the same.

All carvings done by one man, originally here, spent a few years in Orlando but then moved back here. If you appreciate the detailing and time involved in doing wood carving this is the place. Many are biblical themes, including Daniel in the lions den as seen from above.

This is a fascinating visit! Wood carvings based on Bible stories (and other objects); a must-see in the area if you have the time. The family that owns this is very friendly and will answer any questions. Allow approx. 90 minutes. Inexpensive admission.

I was most impressed with the carving of the Last Supper! Even though it's been a long time since I've been there, it is definitely a great place to take a family. Impressive!

The displays are amazing and the hard work that went into each sculpture is apparent. There are no cameras allowed and the fee is kind of high for the amount of time it takes to go through the displays. The wooden sculptures tell stories from the bible, it doesn't take long to go through, there are only very short verses written at each display.

Housed in a big building you'll see many carvings many Biblical depictions (at least 24 large representations done) in wood as well as smaller intricate woodcarvings. The focus is the woodcarvings not a fancy building. It's not overly lit supposedly due to preservation of the figures. There are NO cameras allowed which is disappointing. It's surely something worth sharing and you could take pictures without the flash without damaging anything but I suspect they want to keep it under wraps so you have to visit it for yourself. The Last Supper scene took the carver the longest. It really was an interesting walk through if it sounds like your cup of tea. You have to have an appreciation for woodcarved art and the unusual and if you do you'll likely enjoy it. The family still runs the place so they're likely protective over it. It's a curiosity worth checking into.

I visited this museum many years ago, and the life sized Biblical carvings was like taking a walk through the Bible and time, but in giant wood carvings. It is quite stark inside, but that is for a reason, so that the viewer will not be distracted from the carvings, and the meaning of them. I enjoyed imagining what went through the mind and soul of this artist as he carved these figures. I would rather look at these than go to some high-minded art gallery to look at paint randomly thrown on a piece of canvas, only to have someone have the gall to tell the rest of us that something like that is "art"....yeah, right....go...enjoy these carvings as much as I did...wish I could go back there. This was a strange experience-when you walk in, you enter a room filled with items that look like a thrift/junk store. The foyer is dark and kind of creepy. Then the owner starts talking and it gets weirder! She was snippy, barked orders at us, and scolded our daughter repeatedly for leaning on a wall among other things. The long list of "rules" includes no photos, no gum chewing, no touching ropes, etc...We go to a lot of little museums-mostly the historical ones in small towns and we are always treated so kindly and have a great time. This place was expensive-we paid $6.25 per adult (4 of us) and a bit less for one child. The man who did the carvings has an interesting history and his carvings are interesting but not worth the money, and not worth the strange host to bother. It only takes a few minutes to get through the museum. The carvings are arranged nicely though some paint on the walls would really add to the displays and some kindness and fun would make this a better place. Very religious to if you aren't religious you would probably not be interested.

If you know the scriptures and the Lord you will appreciate your time here. We saw it 18 yrs. ago and I still talk about it from time to time. The defeat of Satan at the empty tomb was especially moving.

It costs $5.25 plus tax (June 2007) and takes about 10 minutes to see it all, including reading everything. Its just a lot of wooden statures carved the same way. A local woman recommended it to us. It might be interesting to super religious people, but i really felt like I got ripped off. Go ride the train in Spooner instead.
