This is probably the most well known of the Traverse City micro brews, and their Northern Hawk Owl is high on my list of amber ales. You're able to stroll in and try a flight or grab a few beers and enjoy them at the indoor tables. The beers are a little on the dark side, and to be honest not the best in town. The building may be great for big parties, but not at all comfortable for smaller groups or couples.
Visited with friends (over 60) and their daughter, husband and almost 1 year old. Perfect place to try a flight of beers, have a light appetizer and relax. Right near Boardman Lake in TC. Enjoyed the flight hubby and I shared, tasty beers even for the not so much the expert on craft beers. We tend to try the lighter variety. The atmosphere was very relaxed, and shabby industrial décor including picnic tables, and quaint up-cycled areas. Worked out great with our littlest visitor, didn't need to worry about disturbing anyone.
My husband is a beer nerd, while I like wine. I wasn't excited to go here, but he was. But I was surprised by how much I loved this place. I had meade, which was delicious. Of course my husband loved his beer. I also had a sandwich on waffles. Sounds strange, but it was surprisingly a great combination. As a bonus, we ran into the owner's father who gave us a tour. Earlier in the day the father had been hand labeling the beer. How's that for family run! In addition, the building has a great atmosphere. Outside it doesn't look like a bar/taproom. Instead it looks like a warehouse. You almost wonder if you belong there. Then you get inside, and it still looks like a warehouse, but you definitely belong. It's got a great vibe. I saw people of all ages here.
Joe the bar tender rocks! Beer was okay and was not as good as in past visits though the Loco IPA was good. The broken nose stunk and the concrete dinosaur (there best beer) was out. Disappointed that we paid cover to listen to a horrible singer on Friday, October 10th. Went back on Sunday and had better beer.
On our Brewery tour stopping at Right Brain was a must! Inside of the building was awesome and very spacious. Large beer selection, 6 beer flight, in 6 oz glasses!! Sat and talked to Chef Mike for over an hour about their beers and Michigan beers in general. Loved this place and I cannot wait to go back!
A bit out of the way location, but huge building. Food looked good- they make sandwiches with waffles for the bread, but we were planning on dinner somewhere else. Husband and I split a beer flight. The oddest beer we tried was a Thai Peanut, which tasted just like pad thai, but was quite spicy for a beer. Great flavor if you like the strange though. Other beers were also good, and there is a good variety to choose from. We were there pretty early in the night, so hard to say how busy it gets later. Good overall experience though.
Absolutely love & miss this place! So fun & creative, interesting brews. Chubby Squirrel, Northern Hawk Owl are great Autumn/winter brews, try Blue Lavender or Cool Hand Cuke for a spring/summer beer. Always changing....love the Strawberry Fields & cannot wait to try Thai peanut next visit. Funky place, great live music & waffle sandwiches. Highly recommend flight. My daughter lives in TC & I visit as often as possible. This is always a must-go-to spot!
Visited here based on rave reviews we'd heard from many friends, and it didn't disappoint. Loved the Cherry Pie beer! They also had a Thai Peanut ale that I found surprisingly delicious. We tried a flight, and really didn't think any were too bad. Northern Hawk Owl was probably our favorite of the "standard" beers--and I think we loved all of the "special" beers! We got some snacks too...mango salsa was great, and so was the guacamole. Only disappointment was that we couldn't take any growlers home of the special beers...they do some growler fills, but they didn't do growlers of the ones we liked the most, so we couldn't spread the Right Brain name in Indiana :( Hoping one day they change their minds on which brews they'll allow for growler fills and let us bring their tasty beverages back home to share with our friends!
Despite their funky brews, this is the best brewery in TC hands down. On a recent trip I was blown away by the Thai Peanut Ale. I normally hate Brown Ales but this was fantastic. We always hit RBB when we are in Traverse and this trend will continue.
Hubby and I searched out this brewpub and weren't sorry. Relaxed surroundings an a nice sampling of their beers for $15.00. The waffle ham and Gouda sandwich was really good. Just wish it was bigger for $7.00 each. Maybe an expanded menu would bring in more people too. We will return when in the area.
Right Brain is one of the best brewery's I have visited. It has an excellent atmosphere with lots of cool artwork throughout the brewery. The brew is top notch, especially if you like IPA's
We had lunch and did a flight at RBB. The waffle sandwiches were delicious and the flight was tasty. We loved the Schrute farms saison.
My husband and I stopped by the Right Brain Brewery after dinner one night. First of all, it's totally tucked away. We didn't think we were in the right spot until we actually parked, entered the building and walked through the door at the end of the hallway. But I suppose that's part of its charm. Very cool art on the walls. Very tasty beer. We even got to take advantage of $2 pints! How can you beat that?!
We stopped and had beers and lunch. The atmosphere is a lot of fun and you can tell that all the staff really enjoy their jobs. Beers were great and the food was a nice change from the typical brewpub foods. Highly recommended.
Very relaxing, fun place to spend some time. Pass the time playing darts or shuffleboard. Or just enjoy spending some times with friends, enjoying good beer. Will definitely be back!
