Built in 1907, this lovely log schoolhouse has been restored and furnished to reflect its historic past. Old school desks and a coal stove fill the center of the room while the teacher’s desk is at the front of the room. Visitors can sit at a student’s desk, or play the teacher, or if you are being naughty - there is a corner stool with a dunce cap! The Alcona Historical Society has done a great job in preserving and restoring this old schoolhouse.

The schoolhouse has antique books, desks, etc. and has a volunteer to answer questions during open hours. Nice side trip.

Very good condition and they have someone there to tell the kids about how things were in the olden days... Nice addition to an excursion to Sturveon Point ligbt house. Worth seeing.

We love stepping back in time and visiting the Bailey School. If you're a history buff, this place is for you. If the school house is open, there is so much to see and read. The walls are lined with old class photos and other memorabilia. Each desk has a text book from the time period. If you look close, some of the student names in text books match the names on the class photos. It was fun to actually read text books from that time period. Count on spending less than an hour. It's free but they accept donations in a non pushy way. Continue on the path to the lighthouse and Lake Huron. Just be careful because there is poison ivy growing near the path. Stay on the path and you should be fine. You can also walk through the parking lot to continue on to the lighthouse. Love this place!
