Every year we spend a few days near Harrisville and a visit to nearby Sturgeon Point Light is a traditional stop. The keeper’s house has been restored and furnished and for a nominal fee you can climb the tower. The lighthouse and grounds are worth visiting even if the gift shop and lighthouse are not open. The grounds include picnic tables and a walk on the beach is a nice way to spend some time. Stop at the Old Bailey Schoolhouse for a fun look at a log-cabin style one-room schoolhouse (circa 1907).

Because we stop at all signs that say "lighthouse" we stopped here as we are so glad we did. It was just spectacular in the fall sun with the trees in brilliant color framing the lighthouse perfectly. The view out to the point was stunning. We walked out to the very point. I'm not sure if was a pier in the past but it is all stone now and you can walk out quite a ways. On the ground of the light house are old pieces of nautical gear used at the light house or on vessels. They all have information plaques. I found it just wonderful.

Climb the 84 stairs of the tower, enjoy the renovated keeper's quarters, and shop at a very nice little gift shop. Very well maintained and staffed with wonderful, very enjoyable volunteers. There is also a one room school house on the property, which unfortunately was not open when we visited. Definitely worth your time!

This is a great lighthouse visit but is more than that. Don't miss a stroll along the shore at Sturgeon Point all the way out to the tip - and be sure to visit the old schoolhouse a few steps down the path. It is wonderfully equipped with items from 100 years ago, revealing important aspects of Americana. Climb the lighthouse too! Wonderful volunteers are staffing this site.

Really enjoyed this excursion in Harrisville because you learn so much about the history of this small town. Even better, you are free to walk through and explore all the rooms in the light house rather than be roped off. Scenic landscape by the lake outside. Great little side trip if you are in the area, make sure you don't miss this.

Nice side trip with info about the history of the lighthouse. You can pay a fee on weekends to climb up into the lighthouse. There is a nice little gift shop on the property and the historic Bailey Schoolhouse is also open on weekends.

Sturgeon point is a very nice lighthouse. We have climbed many lighthouses and this one is very easy, basically 3 floors of steps. The volunteers running the gift shop and the tower are very friendly and informative. Check out the school house while you are there.

We come to this part of Michigan a couple times a year, since my children have been small. This is a must visit everytime we come up. Very nice lighthouse in a nice secluded area. Nice walk out on a point that juts into the lake. Don't forget to stop at the trout farm on the way in.

We visited the lighthouse in July of 2013! We ventured out one day during our camping trip and had fun with this one! The people who worked there knew a lot of information about the lighthouse and the families who ran it. You can also tour the house connected to it, where they have lots of artifacts from the area and it's history. It was pretty cool! We also went into the Bailey school house where we learned a lot too. The lighthouse did have a lot of stairs, like most, so it wouldn't be a good idea for the elderly or small children.

We try to visit once a year. We love visiting the lighthouse and walking along the shoreline looking for Petosky stones. They also have a small museum. Check the website for hours of operation if you want to tour the inside of the lighthouse. We like to pack a picnic and eat our lunch while taking in the beautiful scenery. They do have an outhouse on the grounds. Be sure to walk over and check out the Bailey School.
