This small but concentrated museum shows the little known truths about the unsung heroes and veterans and their roles in our wars and military actions. The lobby presents a life size replica of a typical USO provided to our service men and women overseas.
The museum was well laid out and paid a wonderful tribute to African American contributions to the armed forces. They were just recovering from a tornado that hit the museum last year. The cost was free.
The African American Military History Museum is a wonderful place to visit in the City of Hattiesburg. You will find a wealth of information.
I have been to the AAMM a couple of times. It is a very impressive museum filled with incredible information about African American military personnel. I learned a lot about their contribution throughout America's military history. Many of the exhibits are interactive, as well.
So informative. This is a true history of area African American men and women who have served and landmarked events.
Another jewel in Hattiesburg! Permanent displays are very informative, and changing exhibits keep it interesting. Well worth a trip, even for a non-military person! One of few remaining African American USO's ~ good use of this space! Glad we didn't lose it!
My nieces & nephews came to Hattiesburg, MS from Greenville, SC for Spring break. OMG, they cruised last year, Disney the year before, etc. My sister takes all her grandkids somewhere for every Spring Break. What did Hattiesburg, MS have to offer? To my SHOCK, they loved this museum! It is easy to get to and the people were so courteous and took time answering questions for the children. They had a chance to experience with open eyes things they may be studying in school and a lot to talk about when they get back to South Carolina. I recommend this to any one young or old.
Beautiful facility but there was literally one person there. We felt very alone and isolated on our visit. And it's in a pretty bad neighborhood too. Inside was quiet. Outside there were many noisy loiterers just walking up and down the streets and hanging around in the vicinity. Not a welcoming place inside or out!
This museum is so well run and displayed! Well worth the trip!
