This course is by far the best public course in southern Connecticut. Truly feels like a country club. Spectacular layout and conditioning. Beautiful vistas. The course is challenging but playable. If you are above an 8 handicap, play the whites. Also, Monty's restaurant and staff are amazing. I can't say enough great things about this place. Truly fantastic.
Once you pull up to the Great River Golf Club, you'll notice that your not at any ordinary public course. You'll be greeted at your car where your clubs are picked up and transported down below near the first tee. The parking area and entrance always has immaculate landscaping which shows their attention to details. The enormous inviting clubhouse features an outdoor foyer with stairs leading down to your cart. The course features many, many challenging holes, excellent conditions, a large practice facility (one of the finest in the State with a driving range, putting green, chipping/pitching areas and practice bunkers), superb views, a waterfall on #11and the overall feel of a private club. The restaurant has good food and if you subscribe to their email they have many special nights like grilled pizza night or burrito night on the outdoor patio. Play this course and you will not be disappointed. The only reason they didn't get 5 stars from me is the fact that the price point is high for public golf. Other than that, it's a great place to play or eat!
This semi private course offers a challenge for all levels of golfers with many tee boxes to match your abilities. Long carries over ravines and lots of water challenges on the back nine that runs along the Housatonic River. Keep a sharp eye out and you may see an Eagle in the sky looking for a quick meal. This course offers elevation changes, fairway waste areas, fescue, ponds, dog legs and just great golf. Spray the ball to far left or right and you might find yourself in the water, the woods or the railroad tracks. Great scenic views and a nice restaurant/porch area to watch golfers come in as you relax at the 19th hole after your round. Warning, it's not cheap.
been to Great River multiple times and each time a complete success. corporate event, very accommodating. Christening, staff extremely helpful and friendly, son looking forward to another round of golf. The greens are so beautifully kept. The best part, Great River is a little out of the way but once you get there, if feels like your so far from home. just love it.
Public golf course dining with private club look, feel and service.Definitely upscale menu but delivered in a country club setting. Food is always good and service is impeccable albeit a little slow sometimes
Excellent public/semi-private course located along the Housatonic River. Several "water" holes on this challenging course. The restaurant deck offers an excellent view of the course but service has always been painfully slow, althought the food is very good and not that pricey in a country club like atmosphere.
If you want a challenging golf experience combined with a great lunch... this is the place for you! We played the blue tees and had cheeseburgers. All four of us were impressed.
Love the atmosphere and setting of this restaurant, overlooks golf course, nice outdoor seating, have enjoyed many very good meals and "martini nights" here.
Great practice facility...really challenging layout. A little pricey, but all in all a treat for above average golfers.
I went there for a company function, the appetizers and meal were all very good. The grounds were gorgeous as well.
The restaurant here has great food and always too many things you want to try. You can't fit it all in so you need to keep going back.
We had a choice to play any course in the state and I recomended Great River. From the front desk in the pro shop ( Defending Ct state amature female golfer) who is also a great teacher to Head pro Tom Rosatti you can't find a better staff. We happened to be there on a day Callaway had a clinic / fitting session and Josh the Callaway couldn't have been more helpfull.
Expensive, but really well maintained, great layout, challenging but not crazy hard. Staff very friendly.
