While staying in the down town we stopped in to check out the local museum. The lady working this day was gracious, enthusiastic and very helpful. There is a bit of something to please most everyone here, all revolving around the local history. Worth the time.

This little museum is well worth a visit, being located in the old train depot directly adjacent to the historical district. Its location next to the Visitor Info Center is perfect as the staff in both are helpful, knowledgeable, and friendly. We particularly enjoyed taking the self-guided driving tours around Culpeper covering the Battle of Brandy Station, Kellys Fork, and Cedar Mountain. These concise and well-organized loops take about 45 minutes each and make you FEEL the Civil War history. There are also self-guided hikes at some tour locations. We didn't have enough time to complete the downtown walking tours but enjoyed reading about the thriving two block Davis Street area.

The display on dinosaurs tracks found at a local quarry was great. We also enjoyed the displays on the Revolutionary War and Civil War in the Culpeper area. One of the best small town museums we have ever been to.

It has recently moved to a new location next to the Amtrak station and doesn't seem ready. There isn't much there, much less than was there in the past. The staff hadn't even learned what the children were allowed to do or not allowed to do. It made for a short and frustrating visit. Even the antique cash register, which had provided lots of entertainment to the kids was not yet plugged in.

It is your typical small town museum with well thought out displays showing items of local importance. If you have the time and looking for some local history and insight, definitely pay this place a visit.

The Culpeper museum is small but well worth the effort. It provides an understanding of the town's historical importance especially during the Civil War. The staff is friendly and helpful. Ask them anything. If they don't know; they'll find out.

Free to Culpeper residents.. great info on the war or northern aggression (or if you are from the north.. you call it the Civil War.. LOL) staff is fabulous.. great for any age..... don't forget to do the libations on the lawn in the summer

I took my children there for a homeschool field trip. Entrance fee is low and if you are a resident of Culpeper it is free.It was fascinating to read and see the history of the small town of Culpeper and the museum even traced the dinosaur population of the area. I have been to several small museums for small towns and this was one of the better ones indeed!

We visited here on Thursday November 7, 2013. I've been to dozens of small museums in the Southeast, and this is another excellent example of a small museum doing the right things. Their exhibits were current and well laid out. The stories were relevant to local interests and in tune with the bigger picture of the region. The exhibits were enjoyable and the story they told was easy to follow and thought-provoking. They have a very nice gift shop, and a very friendly and helpful staff.

We have been several times as the Museum changes it themes often. Currently, it is the Civil War. Entrance fee is low and if you are a resident of Culpeper it is free.

They have several interesting displays including a great interactive map and details on dinosaurs found in the area.

nothing spectacular, but we have visited lots of local museums all around the country and you always learn something... and you will learn something here as well, as Culpeper has a rich past, especially essential for anyone interested in the civil war

For a small town, our historical museum has something for everyone. From the dinosaurs to the present, you will find an extensive and impressive collection of artifacts. Culpeper has a list of "firsts" in history and was a place that played prominently in both the Revolutionary and American Civil War.You can arrange ahead for a tour, but the museum is designed well for self-guided tours. This museum will appeal to all ages.

Fascinating history in my father's home town and the museum has packed a lot of information into interesting displays in a very small space.

This is the town museum. It has a bit of everything natural history (dinosaurs, geology), colonial history (Indians and settlers) and lots of Civil War history featuring the four battles that took place near Culpepper. The driving tours of the battlefields start at the museum but it isn't strictly necessary. The volunteers were very friendly local people. It was worth the few dollars admission fee.
