I do business in Gordonsville and was always curious about this place. Trip finders reviews prompted me to take the tour. The rest is history.... Ha ha get it!!

We live in the area & like to take our friends & families here when they visit. It is a bit different from most Civil war attractions in that the building was an active hospital for the Blue & the Gray. It has a complete surgical setup with all the tools & their history. Interesting tours are available of the multi-storied building. Nearby in the town is a historical cemetery where civil war dead were buried.

For only seven dollars this was well worth it. There is a ton of history shown through artifacts, photos, and stories here. There's also a nice little gift shop as well.

Small but VERY well done. You learn something new in each room. Allow yourself at least 1.5 to 2 hrs.

This was a very informative self tour. The charge is minimal. Had no idea of the amount of people that went through there and how important it was. You could easily spend 1 - 2 hours looking and reading all the facts.Really no major dislikes. If you go Gordonsville, there isn't much to do overall but this was cool. If you are there, worth an tour.

We took the nighttime ghost tour from 8pm to midnight. We had a history lesson and ghostbusters adventure all rolled into 1 tour. Angel and Debbie were wonderful guides. There were paranormal activities all around us. Be sure to go to the Depot.

We really enjoyed this civil war museum. Very informative and well preserved. The info they provide about this hotel being a civil war hospital was very well done. Worth the visit

Went with 2 kids 11 and 12 on a whim. We all ended up finding it really interesting. There are a lot of great pieces and great informational plaques.

My husband and sons love history especially from the Civil War. I love it too because they do. We were just passing through from another town and decided to stop. What a pleasant surprise! I enjoyed it so much. It was really well put together and had representations from more than the Civil War era. I would definitely visit again.

This museum is off the beaten path but well worth a visit. Located on a rail line , prior to the Civil War the Exchange Hotline was a stopover for passengers. During the war it became a hospital for Confederate soldiers. Later the Union turned it into a Friedman's Bureau. The many rooms in the Hotel/Museum have been turned into informative displays about the role this hotel played in the war. The staff is very knowledgeable and very willing to share local history.

We were astounded at the beautifully maintained property and the richness of the decor. Loaded with antiques and authentic Civil War hospital supplies, the staff was most knowledgable and captivated us throughout our visit. We will visit whenever we are in the area.

While vacationing at Shenandoah Crossing (Gordonsville, VA), our family decided to visit the Exchange Hotel and Civil War Museum in the quaint city of Gordonsville. We were greeted promptly and given information about the Hotel and its Civil War roots. This is a self guided tour. We were treated to 3 floors of history regarding the hotel for railroad travelers, a receiving hospital for some 70,000 Confederate and Union troops and the Freedmen's Bureau (post Civil War). We took our time to enjoy reading about the events that took place as well as viewing the Civil War relics. The tour was reasonably priced and enjoyable. I would recommend you visit this museum especially if you are a Civil War enthusiast!

They have done an excellent job in furnishing and providing interpretive signs to tell the fascinating story of this tavern, Civil War hospital, train hotel, and private home. We had children through retirees in our group, and all enjoyed.

I would highly recommend this museum. There is no guided tour of the hotel but the lady who sold our tickets did a very thorough job of explaining the history. In each room of the two story hotel there are detailed explanations of the particular uses of the room and also of things in the room. Your tour can take as little or as long as you like. There is a small gift shop that sells drinks and some books and a few other things.
