If you are a Civil War history buff and are in the Warrenton, Virginia area take time and visit this historic gem. This once home of the famous Colonel John S. Mosby offers an enlightening glimpse into his family and personal life with focus on his brazen role in the Confederacy earning him the prestigious nickname of "The Grey Ghost". Our docent, William Connery, a proficient historian was excellent offering a good number of little known fascinating facts. Allow about 90 minutes. The site is located adjacent to the Visitor Center. Being a Yankee being married to a Southern Belle i enjoyed the quote that I found written on one of the interior walls. See photo.
Colonel John S. Mosby was a Warrenton, Virginia, resident and horseman, whose colorful exploits as a Civil War cavalry officer and raider are recounted in his actual home, now the John S. Mosby Museum, in historiic "Old Town Warrenton." Docents give tours of the restored property, a collection of Mosby's personal artifacts, and his colorful life exploits as the leader of Mosby's Rangers. Commendations to the Warrenton local citizens, docents, and historians who restored and made this attraction possible for visitors to appreciate. Well done!
Luckily in a nice part of town. Very interesting guided tour . Very good value. The guide, William Connery was very good
I greatly enjoyed my tour through the Mosby Museum. I know the hours and days open vary and am not sure if the multiple docents are always on duty, but my tour included 3 different docents who were very informative (one was even a descendant of Mosby) on the life and times of Mosby. His heroics came to life while standing in the place he called home for a short time. This museum is still a work in progress but has made great strides so far and is well worth the visit.
A house Mosby used in Warrenton Va. is now a museum filled with artifacts from his life and the Civil War. Only open on some weekends so check ahead. Go to the visitors center nearby to get tickets. Very informative tour is available.
