Wintergreen Resort is an amazing ski place to visit! I went with my wife and two kids and my sister with her husband and two kids. My sister's family had already gone skiing their a couple of times so they were seasoned skiers. My wife was the only one who had ever went, but that was back in The 80s so she needed a refresher. The first day is a hassle because if you don't have ski supplies (like skies and helmets) you have to rent the skis which is a nightmare to go through as it takes almost an hour!! We took lessons and the first day it was me and my two kids. We had so much trouble, but the instructors were so encouraging! They told us we would get 100 times better the next day and we were! I took one more lesson and started skiing down Dobie (a green hill) which for kids should wait towards the end of the weekend if they haven't gone. My son was in the adult lesson by himself the second day (at the early lesson) and my daughter was in the kid group. My son didn't learn anything new which was disappointing, but my sister bought him a private which helped him progress. My daughter learned new things and by the end of the weekend all of us were pretty good for beginners! Their are not many places to eat except for The Edge which has outstanding food, drink, and service! We went over Valentine's Day Weekend so you can imagine how crowded it was. The last night we were their we went tubing at 8:30 PM (the last tubing session of the night) and had a blast! I would recommend buying the tickets earlier in the weekend or pre-order them before your stay to get into it. Luckily my brother-in-law worked his magic and got 8 tickets. It is fun, but very tiring! We stayed in my sister's house that they rent on the mountain on a blue hill (Tyro) which my wife and I skied on at the end of the visit, but my kids did not. Overall this is a very fun ski place where you will definitely enjoy your time and it is worth the money! :)

This was our 2nd time tubing at Wintergreen and if you haven't been, get the your vehicle and try it!!!!! Before I wrote this up I wanted to come back and make sure that staff was as great as it was the 1st time and THEY WERE!!!!This tubing course is 9-10 lanes across and 900ft long!!!!! The best part for most people is the people mover back up to the top. This course is fast but more importantly safe. Depending on the conditions you can go either 1 person, 2 people fasten together or even 3 people fasten together. The staff here is very safe but they are fun and very helpful also. You will see many families with children that want to race at the same time, well kids cant really sit in the tube, steady themselves before the staff says go, so staff members are more than happy to hold your children in place until its time to go, then if asked, the staff will give them a great push putting them in the lead!!!!!Tickets - Tickets normally go on sale the Sunday of that week and both times we went we bought tickets on Sunday for that Saturday and the usually Sell Out during the week so get your tickets early!!!! We have tubed the 130 and the 300 time-slots. Hopefully we try the night tubing next!!!! Since we live in the Hampton Roads area we make it a overnight trip and stay in Charlottesville giving us better options for dinner and a head start in the morning back home. One piece of advise: We advise people if your GPS takes you the Blue Ridge Parkway dont go that way. If its iced over there are no warning signs until you are right there, so you could go 30 mins out of your way just to be turned around. Our suggestions is to go I-64 to 250west to 151south to 664west. It takes about an hour from Charlottesville.

slopes were not as crowded on the blue hills, food continues to be iffy, depends on what you want. Burgers at the Edge great but very loud. would have stayed for music but too loud and busy.

Not sure about what to do with customer service, that's a management/ teaching issue. The rental condos are so old and out of date. Not to mention coffe makers and coffee are "supplied" but no coffee filters in the room - nice way to make you buy 100 filters you will never need after your stay. I was not the only one with this complaint during my recent stay. Housekeeping doesn't speak English. Towels are so small they barley go around a normal size child. If it wasn't for the conference I attend I would not be there. Tubing was fun, but the staff was more interested in talking to each other than paying attention to the lanes and making sure that people were allowed to descend

First time to Wintergreen and Charlottsville area. Didn't go to ski, just to get some R&R for long weekend. Next visit, snow tubing but will make reservations in advance. Time slots were sold out. The Copper Mine, original restaurant at Wintergreen is good, atmosphere of the ski resort warm & friendly. Stayed at a private home at resort. Looking forward to going back.

Staff was horrible. Facility management apparently non-existent.Snow-machines made conditions unbearable on the slopes.

My first trip to wintergreen in a while, the check in and rentals for skis was much easier then others I have seen. It was very crowded this weekend, and the lines for lifts sometimes backed up, but it was still enjoyable. Definitely a do again!

Great place and convenient from anywhere in VA! Beginner to moderately advanced skiing on the slopes. Awesome (and fast) tubing park that the whole family will enjoy! Beautiful setting. High quality food at several restaurants.

I have been going to Wintergreen every year for the past 5 plus years. I love the skiing and hiking at Wintergreen. The ski crew does a great job at making snow, grooming the slopes and keeping the terrain park interesting. Most everyone you meet whether it be a ski/snowboard instructor or a lift operator is friendly, attentive and helpful. The spa is wonderful. I've had many services there and have only disappointed with one pedicure (just sloppy). It would be helpful to have a website to book appointments rather than speak to someone- I just have had to leave messages at times , but the staff has been very good at calling me back soon. While I LOVE to go out to dinner, I choose to eat in when I go to Wintergreen. The food is pretty mediocre as is the ambience at the Coppermine and Devil's Grill- I wish they could do one high end restaurant right. The Edge has definitely improved their menu options though most dishes are still laden in fried oil and fat. I feel like the wait staff at the Edge has always been really attentive and friendly, but it's best to eat off peak hours- the wait can be long especially if you have young children- there's nowhere to really wait but in the hallway (the stage is wasted space when no one is there- it should totally be utilized as a hang out/ wait area with couches or seating- just a thought...) Anyway- head to Wintergreen- don't let my food rant scare you- hopefully they'll kick it up a notch soon!

The snow tubing was the hit of the week. Great for a group or family. Skiing was very good, they certainly had a lot of slopes open for early in the season.

My sisters and I (4 of us) rented a 3 bedroom condo through Wintergreen Resort in November. The condo was very nicely kept, and had a spectacular view of the valley below. It was very cold that weekend, but we had a great fireplace with all the wood we could burn, and we kept it going most of the time we were there. Very cozy...we really enjoyed our visit to the spa and the Copper Mine Restaurant as well. Staff was friendly..overall a great experience.

Rented a 5bd condo, returned with friends for annual winery tour. Love this place, great views. And the condos have always exceeded our expectations. Will return again next year.

We spent a beautiful fall weekend here with our 2 young kids, renting an older condo directly from its owner. A major highlight was hiking on the trails, both those with waterfalls/streams and those with mountaintop vistas. The condo's owner shared her guest pass so we were able to purchase passes for the indoor pool at the modern Aquatic Center/Spa/Fitness Facility. The pool is spacious and the locker rooms lovely, but the water temperature was very, very cold for an indoor pool. We tried one resort restaurant during our stay, The Edge, and our server was fantastic but the food was only mediocre (incredibly salty). I asked if I could have my catfish without the butter sauce and was told I could, but then the kitchen forgot and doused it in butter anyhow. We don't expect to go back. Definitely recommend eating at the restaurants in the general vicinity such as Devil's Backbone and Wild Wolf instead. Our frustration this trip was with the ridiculous lack of modern communication with the various resort departments. My husband called in advance of the trip to book a tee time, waited on hold for a very long time, then eventually left a message. He called again another day and reached someone who assured him he would make the reservation. When he arrived to play at the appointed time, the staff had no reservation for him. But, they were very kind and worked him in, regardless. My experience was that when I called to reserve places for our kids at a special Halloween craft event that was taking place that weekend (reservations required, and by phone only), I waited on hold for 45 minutes and was finally given an opportunity to leave a message. Only problem was that the condo we were renting did not have a land line and also zero cell coverage. I did receive a call back later that day but didn't know it. So we missed the activity. Frankly, Wintergreen really needs to invest in some basic hospitality industry software and move their activity reservations onto the web with automated email confirms. Overall, beautiful place with friendly people that has improved since my review of some years ago but still needs to work toward modernizing their infrastructure both physical and virtual.

All I would say is you can do much better! Don't waste your time or money. The facilities are mediocre. The food is average at best and over priced. The quality of the rooms is variable. It's like stepping back into the 70s. If your room is clean you'll be fortunate. Wintergreen home owners could care less about visitors. They only want your money to off set their costs.

I was here for my daughter's Spartan Race and last year the views were spectacular. This year it was rainy and foggy. Pea Soup foggy. Because of the 9000+ people on the mountain at the same time it was a mud pie and I was not in the right shoes for that weather. Lesson learned I will wear hiking boots to any Spartan Race from now on when I am a spectator. The chair lifts give great views of some of the runs and they allowed us to ride unlimited but even in the summer because it was rainy the chair lift was cold. Couple of things to remember. If you do not have a vehicle that is built for performance some of the roads going into Wintergreen will wear your transmission out. The bus that transported us from the parking field to the venue gave out midway up the mountain and fortunately we were able to hop on a truck coming by, thank goodness, because I have asthma and we had two miles to go. My BMW made the climb the day before just fine. This is a beautiful resort I skied here but it is pretty in the summer.
