palo duro zip line

We really wanted to like this place... I am glad that we did it (it was something different than the hiking we had been doing...) but, just judging it on its own merits, it was one of the most overpriced/ underwhelming zip lines I've ever been on.First, we called to make reservations and my call was answered by two teenage girls who didn't know any of the details and said things like, "I don't really know what's going on" and, "let us know you had a reservation when you come and I think we give a discount". The day before we found out that our other reservation at Palo Duro Riding Stables needed to be moved (BTW, we HIGHLY recommend them). I called to change our zip line reservation and was told, "well, it really doesn't matter, just come anytime before we close". Okay... so much for a reservation.The zip line itself is very short, one ride across a small gully. The advertisement of "across the canyon" is a pretty big exaggeration. It might have been okay except for the abject disinterest of the guides. No eye contact, no banter, no "look to the right and you'll see... ". Nope. I've had better, more friendly, and more expressive zip line attendants who didn't even speak English. Additionally, my three teenage sons went ahead of me and reported that the attendant for breaking barely got the breaking mechanism in place for one of the ladies in our group. On the bright side, I got to see a one year old baby zip line. This place offers tandem rides for kids over 6 months of age. That will tell you something about the extent of this zip line. Good for 6 month old babies who aren't interested in good customer service. Not great for adults who want a view and/or decent customer service.

We visited the zipline your today for my moms 61st birthday. After checking the reviews and comparing them to my actually experience I would say that some trip-advisor reviewers have been too harsh. This place is no disney, but they don't claim to be either. The main building is located just outside the state park entrance to the canyon. The views are amazing and really give a great panorama of the beautiful surroundings. There were 4 adults and 4 children (2, 3, 4 and 5 years old) in our party zipping, and another adult and baby hanging out too. They were careful to fit all people with proper helmet and harness and off we went! The wagon ride part of the tour is off road, canyon adventuring. Complete with bumps and rocks and stuff to see. The kids especially loved it! It was not to bumpy that the oldest in our party complained or the baby in the car seat woke up. Next, we made our way up the suspension bridge. The kids were a bit afraid their first time up because it does move a bit under your feet, but second and third time up there was NO fear. Once at the top, the guide was friendly and helpful. He took care with the small children and was encouraging to those who became nervous. Each time down the line was awesome and provided lots of fun. I highly encourage doing the three rides for $39 as it is completely worth that price. They were kid friendly and allowed the non riding adult and baby to ride the wagon back and forth on the wagon so that they could watch the fun. Nothing about the experience was bad. All in all a super great time close to home. I have been to other 23 line courses in Colorado, so this wasn't my first run down the line. By comparison those were more adventuresome because they are in a mountain. However, the view from this zip line are of a canyon and are amazing. The price is absolutely affordable compared to $175+ in the colorado area. And the experience is fun that you can actually have with your whole family. It's not polished, fancy or upscale. But it is an exciting way to see gorgeous views with your whole family. Will definitely go again!

I checked the website out thouroughly ahead of time and felt pretty prepared. I was glad we'd bought the 3 ride deal since it does go by fast. I felt safe and felt like my kids were safe too. I didn't have a problem with the braking at all - my stop was smooth. Our guides were kind and friendly. The jeep ride was dusty and bumpy but fine.The views are EXCELLENT - truthfully, the only thing I would change is that it was somehow longer - we had a blast! My kids were 9, 11 and 14 and it was the highlight of our 18 day, 17 state road trip!

My daughter and grandson went to this attraction, and had been to zip lines previously in other areas. Beware of the impact on braking, it is a HARD jolt (knocked both of their heads). The ad said it took an hour, which was not true. The trip down to the zip line took about 5 minutes, the line to get on took 1-10 minutes (depending on where you were in the line) and the zip itself was only 30 seconds. Then there was about a 10 minute wait after everyone was finished for the shuttle back up. The shuttle itself was more "exciting" than the line, since the 4 wheeled trailer had only two tires on it. Something to experience if you could do it for under $20, but overpriced for the one ride as it is.

Took my family of 6 to the play Texas stopped at zip line to let our 4 children ride. While is us not very costly at $25.00 per head it was a terrible rip off.. The line itself was very gradual and short. extremely boring said all 4 of my children. You could have more fun on a swing set. The staff both inside and outside we're snotty and rude. they acted as though they were doing us a favor to let us ride. Before you ride ask to go look at it. The videos online are very deceptive!!

They really need to work on their shuttle system. Didn't think it was worth the time and money invested, you'll spend more time waiting and riding the shuttle trailer then is worth the excitement of the zip line ride. We paid for 3 rides per child and my kids were so tired of waiting around they skipped the third ride altogether and decided they would rather walk back up the hill in the July heat then wait for the shuttle.

The staff at the Palo Duro zip line makes up for the price of one 30 second thrill. (Do the 3 jumps: It really is the better deal, you can't beat that price!) They were all so sweet to my 74 year old mother who decided she wanted to go after watching her two grandkids ride. She has severe progressive alzheimers and we took her to the canyon to ride horses as kind of an item to check off her bucket list. The jeep to the destination was just as fun as the zip line. The swing bridge to the jump site was also a lot of fun. Once we got up there her feelings changed about the ride. I didn't get the name of the sweet lady who gently helped and encouraged her to let go of the ladder and hang on, and the super nice gentleman at the bottom who helped steady her and helped her off. She was so excited that she had done it. She has talked about it all the way home, one thing on the list to check off that wasn't even on it because of her extreme fear of hights! Thanks to all of you! We will be back!!

This was a good time our family had. We purchased the 3 ride package. You do not zip line over the main part of the canyon but it was fun and fast. We also did the Texas show at the Palo Duro Amphitheater. If you are looking for a good zip line this would be it.

We took our Granddaughter to Palo Duro in July. We read about the zip line from their website. I thought the view would not be that good because it is not actually in the park. The view was beautiful. Please note that the ride to the zip line is VERY bumpy. If you have a bad back don't go. There are no shocks on the trailer. One of our guilds was a young man who grew up in the area and loved the canyon and he was so helpful. The other guild was rude and unhelpful. He even said to us "hurry up I don't have all day". When we were asking about how to do something he said"Just like last time in a very rude tone. We took the three time trip and so glad we did. We thoroughly enjoyed this trip and will do it again when we go back.

I wish I knew the names of our guides. They were absolutely awesome! We really picked the best possible company for our first experience! You put my wife, Samantha, and I at ease and made it a very enjoyable experience. We both wish you had the option for taking photos during the zip line ride, we would have even been willing to purchase them; however, our guide agreed to take photos for us with our camera. This was our first time on a zip line and although we were somewhat apprehensive, it was absolutely awesome! We will definitely be doing it again! Thanks for being so patient, compassionate, and encouraging. It was very much appreciated! I love the fact that you don't have to worry about braking and can just enjoy the ride. I would have loved to kick the gate open though. You guys were great!! Thanks again!

We were excited to try out the Palo Duro Zip Line since it is a relatively new addition to Palo Duro Canyon. We read on their web site about their concerns about the guests' safety, the transport vehicle to the launch site and how much time to allow for the zip line experience so we felt like we were fairly informed as to what to expect. Registration went smoothly and then we were given our harnesses and helmets and waited for the transport vehicle to return, which was a Jeep (Cherokee, I believe) and a canopy covered tram like wagon. We headed to the launch site and the vehicle died. The driver got out and banged on the catalytic converter with a wrench and it finally started and we made it to the launch site. Once there, we were told to open our link on the pulley we were carrying and the attendant hooked us to a rope. You then ascend a suspension bridge to another suspension bridge which takes you to the launch tower. There are side by side zip lines, you climb up on a wooden chair, they open the gate and tell you to step off. No other instructions were given....none! I asked if we should hang on to the handles on the pulley and was told I didn't have to hang on at all. Yeah sure! Since the pulley had handles on it, I had pulled myself up with my arms at a 90° angle instead of hanging dead weight by my arms. (Apparently a big mistake since my head was higher up than it should be.) The ride across was very fast (speed wise) and I saw I was coming in really, really fast. Right before I got to the attendant there to grab my cable, the overhead brake slammed into my helmet and I had a violent stop to the end of my ride. I realized that if my helmet had been sitting an inch farther back on my head, the overhead brake would have caused a severe head injury. Needless to say, I found their safety practices to be shoddy, at best. Everybody else in my party (5 others) had a great time, even though one of the other women slammed into the pole quite hard at the end of the zip, using her foot to stop herself. We broke down 5 or 6 more times on the very short ride back, each time the driver using a wrench to bang on the catalytic converter of the Jeep. Breathtaking view of Palo Duro Canyon but the scariest zip line experience I've ever had based on other zip lines I have been on. One zip without reservations is $25.00. You can make reservations for $29.00 a ride.
