This place is incredible. It goes by the town of Glen Rose. It has plenty of parking space, and it is not paved. It has Grable. If you have children, they will love to climb on these gigantic rocks found at the park. My pets and my wife had a ball.
The river is low in some places and very deep in others. The water was cool in most places we went. Super cool to actually see REAL dino tracks in the river bed.
This is the steepest river in Texas and as such is a favorite of kayakers when at flood stage. Normal depth is only 6-12" It is very clean with only one dam at Glen Rose Big Rocks park. Do not get in the water if it is not flowing in the summer due to a dangerous amoeba which has killed a few people by crawling up their nose to cause meningitis. Access points include CR 1008, 205 at Creation Evidence Museum, Highway 67 and at Big Rocks park and Tres Rios (private) where it enters the Brazos. Fishing is nonexistent due to the river drying up twice a year and a dam at Big Rocks which prevents fish from migrating up from the Brazos. Trout are stocked in the lake at Big Rocks in the fall.
This is a cool river. So may access points kids can wad and you can find fossils. There's also good fishing.
My wife and I stayed in the Cedar House. We Loved It! This was a perfect place to get away from it all and spend quality time together. We couldn't have asked for more, it was just perfect. We can't wait to go back and check out the other cabins.
Nice river, clean and easy to access. Rent a tub or take your own. Nice day tubing and a good family activity.
The part of the Paluxy I am reviewing is the section in the middle of downtown Glen Rose. There are some really great rocks here that are easily accessible from the parking lot and fun for pictures. This was enjoyable. The parking lot need some work.On the DISTURBING SIDE, there is also a large sign warning about the health dangers of amoebas in stagnant water areas. However, that did not seem to stop several families from parking their kids and outdoor chairs in the middle of the shallow river!
Beautiful and clean river that would be great in canoe season which seems to be a big business there now. I have not done that and prefer to hike on the banks of the river and observe the wildlife.
The river is flowing nicely right now, but certain areas smelled like sewer to me. I was walking along the River Walk area and a noticed the smell. It was only in a couple of areas, not sure why. Would be nice to have a water fountain or two on the walk way, but there aren't any, so be sure an pack some water.
Took my family and had a great time. Limestone bottom lets you walk right out in the water.
The Paluxy River is great for families with children of all ages. There are places where the water is just covering the river bed and it was great for the young ones that we watched splash inthe river.
Actually, we had to cross it to see the dinosaur tracks. Great family fun!
