We went to Fossil Rim and the Dinosaur Valley SP but climbing on the rocks at Big Rocks Park was by far the favorite of our kids. They could have stayed all day climbing a playing in the river. Got some great pics while there. Don't miss this little gem!!

A perfect kid place. They enjoying climbing and exploring. Wear old shoes and be prepared to get muddy.

It is a fun place to visit especially in the summer when you can get in the water. The rocks are large so climbing them is easy and the water is cool to your feet.

Interesting rock formation on the river. There was no entry charge. We were able to climb on the rocks and wade in the river.

My kids love this place! They are 15 and 12 and just love to play around here. Since it's totally free, it's a fun place to stop and let them play for a while. My wife and I can sit in the shade of one of the boulders while they run around, jump from boulder to boulder, play hide & seek, etc. This is always one stop on our trips to Glen Rose when we make a whole day of it (see my review of The Promise for our complete itinerary). Be sure to bring some water or drinks. I think there is a port-a-potty here, but we've never used it. Most of the time we stay no longer than an hour, so it's no big deal. The picture I attached here was taken of my son and his best friend on the rocks overlooking the river. It's one of my favorite pictures. This place reminds me of what it means to have a childlike spirit- to be care-free and love hanging out with your friends!

I watch kids and teenagers as they walk toward the Big Rocks and as they stick their electronic gadgets in their pockets - and then I watch the imagination turn on. There is nothing there but Big Rocks and so you entertain yourself. Absolutely wonderful place right on the Paluxy River.

This is good exercise for kids big and small. My grand daughter had a ball taking her grand father exploring on and around the Big Rocks and Huge Boulders. There is also a creek and a dam to explore. We were there when the water level was extremely low, therefore it was extremely safe. Good generational fum and bonding.

My wife and I were traveling between Frisco, TX, and San Antonio and decided to stop here at Big Rocks Park to stretch our legs. We parked our Prius by the rocks and took our Shih Tzu out to the rocks to hike around. Be sure to wear sturdy rock gripping shoes. My wife wore flip flops and I had to help her numerous times getting up and down some of the big rocks. Our dog had an easier time, but was hindered by some sandburs she picked up in the grass before we got to the rocks. Spent a few minutes picking the sandburs out of the hair in her paws. The big rocks are situated along a river. The river when we were there was very low and slow. Texas is in a big drought for the most part. After the hike we made use of the restroom located up some stairs close to the road into downtown Glen Rose. The restroom was well maintained and clean, but my wife said the metal toilet seats were a little cold. One complaint - no soap in the soap dispensers. Nice stop. No admission charge.

While we visited the park there was no water flowing and no one else but us. Big Rocks describes it exactly. This small park is made up of large rocks. A short visit is enough unless you have kids or are a kid at heart and want to climb all over the rocks.

We stayed at Oakdale across the street. This was definitely on the list. I went here as a child while my grandparents relaxed at the campsite. It was so fun to see the kids jump from rock to rock. My little granddaughter was a bit scared but her grandpa went up with her and then it was okay. We walked around the river bed which was pretty dried out but the kids did "accidentally" fall in the water and splash around a good bit. We didn't stay too long has it is still pretty hot in the afternoon and the rocks tend to hold heat!

Its an interesting natural area to see. Good way for kids to blow off some steam climbing. Unfortunately I was there the week the river had been drained for maintenance.

they need more signs to tell the history of the place, how the rocks were formed and when. not much info except interesting scenery. and need bins so people aren't leaving their trash all over the place....

People have been enjoying themselves on those rocks for millenia. If you make one trip to this free park on a nice summer day you will know why. It is just plain old fun. I've been visiting this park my entire life and it is still enjoyable. The new dam and accompanying landscape just upstream make the entire area pleasant and enjoyable. I recommend looking up some local history while you are in town. It is impossible not to consider the past when you visit Glen Rose, but this park seems to mandate your thoughts travel backward in time.

Stopped by to check it out. Was fun to see the big rocks and look around. Will probably go again when its cooler. Couldnt stand the august heat. But we did have fun. Only bad part is the trash and graffiti. Saw lots of trash left behind from previous people and some graffiti on the rocks. They really need trash cans out there.

These rocks are BIG! Some of them are like trucks. One can see how they were shaped by the wind and water. We went down to the river bank and saw how the bottom was shaped. It had wide grains running with the course of the water. The tremendous force that the water had was unimaginably forceful.
