I have been attending The Promise since I was in college. Now that I am married, I was finally to take my whole family. We all absolutely loved it. We actually made a day of it- and this is what I would suggest to families with kids/teens for a whole day experience:1. Arrive in the late morning and go to the Fossil Rim Overlook for a picnic lunch. Taking the Fossil Rim tour is very expensive (but usually worth it in my opinion). But the overlook is absolutely free! There, you can go through the petting area, a nature trail (where I proposed to my wife), the gift shop, and of course, the overlook (there's a restaurant/snack bar there if you don't want to pack a lunch).2. Move on to Dinosaur Valley State Park. Do some hiking across the river and up the mountain. If it's not too cold, go swimming in the Blue Hole!3. Next, go on to Big Rock Park. This is free and the kids love jumping from boulder to boulder, playing hide and seek, etc. Plan on spending 45 minutes to an hour here.4. Go eat dinner at the Loco Coyote. It's out in the middle of nowhere but worth the trip (about 15 minutes from the Fossil Rim cutoff). Do not get here later than 5:15 pm or you won't have enough time!5. After dinner, go see The Promise! No matter how hot it is during the day, bring blankets! If nothing else, you can sit on them! Every time I have gone, it has been nice and cool in the evening. If time allows, do the backstage tour!So there you have it- an awesome day in Glen Rose, capped off by the most awesome production of the story of Christ!
The Live Nativity @ The Promise in Glen Rose is definitely a great place to stop by during the holiday season! It is free to get in and donations for coats and non-perishable food items are accepted on behalf of local charities. There is a concession stand, outdoor heaters, karaoke, costume dress up with pictures, and vendors to visit while you wait for your tour group to be called. The tour was rather brief but entertaining with actors, live animals, and even a tour of the stage. This event would not be good for families with very small children as the tour is not stroller friendly and it is later at night.
This is one of the best productions you'll see anywhere in the world. It's like you're actually there during the Bible times, go see it.
We loved watching the Promise, it is a classy performance by skilled and passionate actors. The entire performance is so well done, we couldn't have been more impressed. It is wonderful to see Jesus' life accurately portrayed in this manner. We would highly recommend everyone taking the time to check this out!
This was our first time to see this show and my husband and I thought it was great. The acting and singing was great and the quick transitions between stories were done very well. The staging was nice. It was cold when we went but we brought a blanket and they had hot cocoa so that helped. They also have concession stand foods and a small gift shop. It was also nice looking up at the moon and stars that were so very clear when went. We went on Halloween night so it was not crowded at all and we had choice of seats.
This was an awesome show. I want to go every year from now on. It's a beautiful amphitheater. We took our Sunday School group of 12. We all had a great time.
My husband and I went to see "The Promise" not knowing what to expect.....we were pleasantly surprised by the high quality of the musical. The cast was great and I was so surprised to see all the animals used in the production. The only negative was we sat on the last set of seats nearest to the Concessions and people tended to stop and talk so we had trouble hearing even though the cast used mics....twice I had to ask people to be quiet....some were staff members BUT everyone complied and was very gracious about moving or stop talking. It was worth the time and the $ and I will go again when I have out of town quests. What a wonderful way to spend a beautiful October evening under the stars.
The production was extremely well done. It is somewhat long at 2 hrs. 15 min. but the production was good enough that it didn't seem that long. The ampitheater was very confortable with good sight lines and the sound system was very good. The chairs are molded plastic so bring a cushion might be a good idea.
My family and I with 2 kids (5 & 4) watched the play and was amazing! My 5-year old was all ears. The little one slept before midway probably because she got tired at fossil rim earlier that day.The play is a little bit long. It started at 8pm and ended before 11pm including 15-min break that is more like 25- minutes.Overall, I love the experience. Will be back again next year. Thanks to the organizers and cast for making this happen.
I was only told by my friend I was visiting in Texas that we were going to see a play.WOW!!!! I never expected this! The venue, sets, and actors were flawless. Hollywood could not have done it any better. This was an amazing experience that I wish I could take EVERYONE I know to see. Truly remarkable presentation.
The play was high quality. It was every bit as good as plays we have seen in Branson, MO and other locations. When we were there the weather was quite cool and windy with threats of rain. Since we had 2 octogenarians in our group we asked if we could return the next night. They were so kind and allowed our group of 16 to return the next night. We were very grateful for their kindness. It was the highlight of our trip!
I have been to this numerous times and it never gets old! The life of Christ is beautifully illustrated before your very eyes. This play is strictly done by volunteers! The acting is flawless! Even if you are a believer, you get to see the bible fold out before you. A very scenic dome that it plays in. You get to watch an amazing show under the Texas open night. This is a must see!!!!
I've been to this 3 times and have seen a standing ovation every time. This is a wonderful show and a first class performance by everyone. Wonderful for children.
