the blueberry place

Our annual visit to The Blueberry Place has been an absolute must for years & especially now that we have grandkids. The Blueberry Place features rows and rows of bushes full of berries in all stages of ripening and the owners encourage eating them fresh off the bush as you pick (they are pesticide-free!) Everything you need is graciously supplied--bags, buckets, and even harnesses to fit any size person so that you can clip your bucket on and pick with both hands! The owners are usually around somewhere on the property but when you finish picking, you weigh your own berries, figure what you owe (detailed charts are hanging on the wall next to the scale) and leave your money with the "cashier"--a basket on a shelf in the corner! Yes, it's set up entirely on the honor system, a quaint and charming nod to a time when folks were assumed to be honest and trustworthy. I can't imagine that anyone anywhere near Nacogdoches wouldn't make at least one trip to The Blueberry Place when the berries are ripe, which is right now!
