This is a year round attraction located just outside of town, lets see, it can be sen from miles away, it's brass color standing on a pile of rust, it has a parking lot, used to have a light in his helmet but the bulb burnt out, and lastly, pigeons love it, I hope that was helpful

This impressive 81 foot or some say 3 story high statue is hard to miss, just be sure you don't. It is a wonderful tribute to the iron miners of northern Minnesota, for those who died and for those who worked very hard in a very difficult occupation to provide a very important natural resource to our country.

You can't miss this impressive 3-story tall tribute to Minnesorta iron mining. On a hill above the highway, you can't miss it . What an image in the western sun! There is a wonderful poem there about the Iron Man and all who lived and worked in the industry. Written by a Slovenian immigrant's daughter Veda Ponikvar (a legend herself), this is an impressive read. Photos took me an hour! What fun on a sunny summer evening. There are also many other things to visit; the Iron Man just gets you started!

This is a very large memorial statue. It depicts the rugged men who worked and sometimes gave their lives in the iron mines in Northern Minnesota. He stands alone in the middle of a field.

This statue is one of the largest free-standing statues west of the eastern seaboard. It is free to see, located on the edge of a little commuter lot planted with flowers by volunteers along US 169, at the entrance to Minnesota Discovery Center adjacent to the town of Chisholm and a half-block from McDonalds. Nice place to stretch or walk your pet. Interestingly, it was built mostly with funds from local townspeople around 1976.This is an incorrect photo; The actual statue is of an old miner dressed in 1920s gear.

It is a must to stop and take a pic with Iron Man, and then scoot across the highway to Discovery World!

Small rest area. Right next to McDonalds. Large area for walking, getting out and stretching your legs

Great Remembrance of all the Iron Men and a salute to all the workers past and present that keep this area alive. I drive by this statue often, great reminder and a beautiful statue!

This monument to the miners of the entire iron range stands tall near the western edge of Chisholm, MN across from Iron World. It is huge and cannot be missed as you travel through this area.

Yes, it sure is huge. Enjoyed seeing this massive statue along our way through Chisholm. We would have liked to had time to see the MN Discovery Center too. The Iron Man was good itself, but would have liked to seen more information about him on site. I wonder what possessed them to move it in front of McDonald's. We actually went to the Center to ask where it was. Amazingly, didn't see it on the way in. But wasn't looking there! Proves the mind sees what it's focused on.

Driving by we had a chuckle about another giant roadside icon. But when we stopped and read the plaques... took a closer look at the statue ... and thought about it ... we were impressed and in awe of the men (past and present) who worked Minnesota's Iron Range. And then we took a drive through Chisholm ... a nice little town.

It's worth a quick stop.Despite its size, the facial features are clear and evocative. There's a plaque describing miners' experiences.

The 3rd tallest free-standing statue in the US - and it's up in the Minnesota Iron Range. One of their best-kept secrets! A very nice tribute to the people that mine iron-ore to make steel for the rest of the world. The plaque could have given a bit more info - we found out additional history of the statue from the Minnesota Discovery Center (just across the highway).

The size of the sculpture is awesome and represents the size and importance of mining well. The miner in the sculpture doesn't look like most miners I have seen in historical photos. There is a nice parking lot at the base of the sculpture. It is not a "rest area", so do not expect a bathroom. Nor is it a "tourist trap", no gift shops. It is simply a sculpture to be admired and to get you thinking about how massively important miners and mining were and are to the Iron Range and Minnesota.
