Burgess Falls is a beautiful place. The park provides a hiking trail, playground facility, picnic tables and of course nature's beauty. If you're looking for a great day outside, pack your lunch and head to Burgess Falls. You will enjoy it.
Burgess Falls is great for hikes and picnics! The waterfalls are beautiful! They also have a playground and pavillion.
We hiked these falls after visiting Burgess Falls. This hike was pretty easy even though the signs indicated it could be strenuous. The first portion from the parking lot past the middle falls is quite easy. Everything I read said there are 3 sets of falls but to me there are really 4 sets. The first 2 are close to the parking lot and one can walk down to water level to view them. The Middle Falls though can only be viewed from the trail from above but nice views are afforded from the lookout points. The last segment to the large falls is a sequence of steep inclines and declines but not bad and even have steps on a lot off the trail. I am 60 and found this to not be difficult. The very last segment utilizes a cage like enclosed series of steel stairs to descend partway down in front of the falls. Very impressive falls and well worth the walk. It appeared if one wanted to the trip could be made all the way to the bottom but it looked quite slippery as it was wet and looked like one slip could mean a world of hurt so we didn't bother.
You can either walk along a semi-rough trail that goes along the river, seeing Lower and Middle Falls or you can take a quicker, gravel/paved path through the forest to see the main Burgess Falls. The Falls themselves are beautiful and very tall. You can't tell from the pictures but they are huge. There are steps leading down to the bottom of the falls where you can swim. The is a playground by the parking lot which was great for my little one to burn off some energy before stopping back in the car. The bathrooms were clean but there was only 2/3 stalls and the line was long (as people were changing in/out of swimsuits).
If you like to hike, walk, enjoy beautiful scenery and oh the falls! My favorite time to go is Spring. Fall Colors are amazing. Great destination for anyone who loves the outdoors.
Great Park and Waterfalls. We visited Burgiss Falls 1st thing that morning before the crowds. I wish the water was deeper but that is determined by the rainfall. ;-) I spent some time exploring the various levels of the Falls which was fun but very precarious. The water splashing on your body is the greatest feeling. Bring a snack, drink, etc but clean up Please before you leave, practice Low Impact hiking & camping so others may enjoy as well, ;-) Thanks and have a good time.
The drive from the highway is very scenic and enjoyable especially if you are from the suburbs and city. There are two paths to the big fall. The first is gravel with an incline. The other is more scenic as you will go through the trees around the river and see 2 smaller falls. It was on our way from Nashville to Knoxville and added about 2 hrs time to our trip but well worth it.
It is a beautiful collection of waterfalls. The site is hidden and a wonderful treasure to see while traveling through East Tennessee.
Short way from main highway leads down a wonderful drive through country to a beautiful set of falls, very nice summer employees.
Live locally and am able to take advantage of this beautiful park often. If visiting the area it is a must see and great day out. Take a picnic and lots of water for your hiking adventure. I have come across a snake so go properly dressed for the hike and bring a camera for all those great photo ops. The waterfalls are breath taking! You will be happy you visited.
We went to see Burgess Falls right after a heavy rain the night before. It was awesome! Although the water was muddy, it was beautiful! The trip is not an easy one in as much as you have to pick your way over roots, uneven ground and lots of steps. The path was narrow and not one for small children. We found that it was worth the effort for the many falls were great leading up to the final and most spectacular one of all. It reminded us of Niagara Falls in that so much water was escalating over the falls. It was complete with mist and a rainbow. Not a trip for the faint of heart, but well worth the effort of the climb.
In a land of waterfalls this one is the best. I used to visit it back in the 1960s when it was still on private land. This park is relatively small, but the walk to the falls includes much history and scenery. Take note of very old hydro-electric artifacts and a picturesque ruin of a bridge by the first small falls. Walk on and hear the roar of water from the second, medium sized water fall. Take it all in, the deep forest, the gliding water, and huff and puff your way to the prize, huge main Burgess Falls. If you're in shape, you can take a stairway to the bottom. The roar of water and spirit of the falls are strong. Refreshing and unforgettable!!A word of caution. Several friends and relatives have fallen off the trail, albiet because they were trying to get really good photos. So, please stay on the trail and be careful. A fall in the falls will not end well!Because of the danger this park closes at Sunset or before. Its irritating in the winter, when it effectively closes (to start the walk) at about 3:30 PM. Then you have to be out just before true sunset.Walk the trail to the falls, and the straight shortcut on the way back. Don't forget a second short hike along the river for unforgettable views! You can enjoy great picniking near the restrooms at the first, mild, yet beautiful series of small waterfalls. Read, relax, throw a baseball around. Nice place! Make sure you know its open, as the State closes the place when there's any sort of budget shortfall. A spiteful act that costs the State more than it gains. They prohibit parking at these times for a mile around the place.
Nice hike to the waterfalls, and a pretty good hike to the bottom. Worth the trip to see theses beautiful falls!
Great short trip from Cookeville, TN. Waked the ridge trail and saw 3 falls within 20 minutes. Going to the bottom of the big last falls was a major hike, but well worth it to fell the water coming off the cascade. Lots of tree roots and rocks on trails so keep and eye on your feet easy to trip.
We had some extra time and decided to visit. Wow! The hike is short, though if you aren't used to walking you might take the upper trail used for park vehicles. I thought the first few falls were pretty good and then I saw the Big Falls! The hike to the bottom isn't as strenuous as the signs warn but it's dangerous since the mist makes the stones slippery and the path is rough. But it was fun to stand in the mist and get so close to the falls. The park was busy on a Saturday but not too busy to enjoy it.
