This is one of the best New England town common's. The church and the church yard are beautiful and the grave yard with stones dating from the early 1600's are quite remarkable.
This is a classic New England town commons area, with churches, stores, graveyards and all. The stores are fun to wander through and the Thursday's Thrift Shop has quite a good selection.
quaint views--worth going to see. NOT Disneyfied. It's the real thing. COngregational church, graveyard, a great general store with most of what you need, draping trees... Get the picture. I have been told that because this area was part if the Plymouth Plantation --ie MAssachusetts-- it has the village arrangement --- the only commons in a Rhode Island town.Once there drive around, get lost on the roads....they all lead to the sea and back to the commons. And it is gorgeous country.
Not much to write home about here. There were a few churches a general store but nothing else. There wasn't anything to do, we didn't event get out of the car.
We went on an adventure to Little Compton, kind of like driving through NH. The restaurant was clean, excellent service. We both ordered the turkey dinner which was so dry it practically chocked me. I sent it back and ordered the meat pie. The crust was saturated with grease which I peeled back. The inside was good but a little too much seasoning for my taste. My friend sent back the turkey dinner also and got the meatloaf which was very good, but again a little too much seasoning for our tastes.
