Less than 5 minutes from US 23 at Prestonsburg, KY, this was the largest and most significant Civil War battle in Eastern Kentucky that was fought during the early stages of the war. Wonderful battlefield nestled between the hills!

Not much to see but history boards and if you go at the right time of year there is a reenactment. We were there in August and the grounds were all grown up with weeds so you really couldn't get a good idea of the battlefield.

I've told my Grandsons about how my Father's relatives (Grandfather and Uncles, fought for Confedracy in the 4th mounted Infantry.) and how my Mother's Grandfather and Uncles fought for the 40 Ohio Volunter Infantry.) During the Civil war and they met on the Battlefield at Middle Creek. To them it was just a story until they got to see the actual battlefield. It made the whole thing real to them, and they started asking questions and WANTING to learn MORE about the Civil War. It felt so good seeing my grandkids WANTING to learn. I WILL take them to the next reenactment of that battle.

We enjoyed being where history from the civil war took place. I didn't realize President Garfield fought here as a general and could of ( and should have) gotten his but kicked here.

Civil War site. Location of the Battle of Middle Creek in 1862. It is a pretty neat monument with lots of informative displays. It also has two trails: Union and Confederate. Worth the time!

Trails are not well kept. But very informative stats, etc are available. Nice place to stop between parkway and Prestonsburg during travel. Flags are beautiful! I am not sure but it kinda reminds me of a unfinished project????

I passed this attraction on my way into Prestonsburg and thought I'd stop by. The signs posted there were very informative about the Civil War battle that occured in this area. There were 2 short trails with markers--one was a Union trail, the other a Confederate trail. While I found the signage along these trails also informative, the trails were not what I expected. When I saw the sign "national battlefield" I expected some sites of where actual battles or camps were set up. Instead, this little attraction is more of a commemoration of the battle, than information about the battle.
