knik museum and musher's hall of fame

What I enjoyed was seeing the history of the Idiatirod through the mushers and the actual track. Diane was there and she had such fulfilling stories. Her educated and funny was to relive those years gone by. It is a bit out of Wasilla-it is in Knik. I know if Diane wasn't there that day, it may have not been quite the same. If I had to, I would call to make sure Diane is there. I believe this museum was open Thursdays-Sundays.

located at the original site of the village of Knik, the museum provides the visitor with many artifacts from the early days of the community. Additionally you can see the history of the Iditarod Sled Dog Race in Alaska.

this old building is the attraction. The new road destroyed the historic town of Knik. Darn those bulldozers. The Knik Bar Roadhouse is a real Alaskan dive, hamburgers don't kill you and you can sit down by the lake and eat them. Folks at the Knik Bar and Roadhouse are friendly too.

Auf unserer Tour durch Alaska wollten wir auch das "Knik Museum and Musher's Hall of Fame" besuchen und nahmen hiefür einen Umweg in Kauf. Laut Internet sollte dieses Museum von Juni bis September täglich geöffnet sein; es wurde jedoch angeregt die Öffnungszeiten zu hinterfragen. Per E-Mail gab ich den Besichtigungstag, einen Mittwoch, bekannt und wurde mir mitgeteilt, dass wir willkommen seien. Leider standen wir nach unserer Ankunft vor verschlossenen Türen, da das Museum mittwochs geschlossen ist. Leicht verägert setzten wir unseren Weg in Richtung Norden fort.
