We spent the day on the boat, snorkeling, and a BBQ on the beach. It was such a fun time and very affordable adventure. I reccommend not to miss the fun. Everything is provided for you too.
The ocean was pretty rough and I was a bit sick from who knows what, I have kind of a weak stomach. But once we got to the island it was all so worth it. We went for a tiny walk to a point at the end of the island, just the two of us,and there was a little ladder down to the water, oh wow, it was so beautiful!!!
crazy boat rides to the place, unorganized, low entertainment level and crappy food, beach merchants are worse than the flies!
cool trip to the island for lunch and drinks after snorkelling.....little rough on the ride there due to January waves in the Atlantic but enjoyed it nonetheless.....paid for the non sanctioned trip which ran us each about 90 bucks
Food and snorkeling was great! Tons of fish! We did an excursion from Punta Cana and the cost was cheap for the entire day!
What was supposed to be a 1.5 hour ride out turned into a 2.5 hour drive from hell. Give this tour a pass unless being herded around like cattle is your idea of fun.
Beautiful water!! We took an excursion there and absolutely loved it!! Booked it through our hotel and it included the boat ride, lunch and drinks! It was prefect!
Several years ago, my friend and I stayed for 4 days in La Romana. We booked an excursion on speed boasts to Saona island. It was wonderful! Felt like Giligan's island. We loved it.Recently, my husband and I returned to the DR/Punta Cana to celebrate the end of breast cancer treatments. After much consideration, we booked a day trip to Cape Cana and Catalina Island on the recommendation of our Air Transat reps. What a disaster. We stayed at Paradisus and so we were the first couple picked up by the bus at 0700 am. Over an hour later we had stopped at several other hotels and waited for couples to board. I would have rather spent the extra hour in bed!We travelled on a highway to the south coast with a nonstop dialogue in French and in English from the tour guide. He was funny but it was all script. And one point I just wanted him to stop talking, and to enjoy the view.A short 30 min. stop at a reconstructed, yet charming, village in cape cana. Then off to the paddleboats on the river. They were not real paddle boats, just a replica. Getting out on the water was nice, but it was ?pointless?. We stared up the cliffs at million dollar homes. We then boarded the catamaran. The staff were friendly, pouring rum and engaging us to dance. But sea sickness quickly set in amongst 5-6 people. And they were not prepared.I watched one woman vomit over the railings 30 min. out. And another into empty drink glasses her husband held for her. The staff were so not prepared. It was an hour and a half on really choppy water. And then we had to get into another boat (scary) to get to Catalina island and to our lunch.Well, might I say, by the time we all were herded to the covered picnic tables, no one really wanted to eat. We had paid extra for two lobster meals and we couldn't give them away. While I never vomited, my husband did immediately after hitting land. I convinced him we should eat 2 dry pieces of bread and sprite and then we slept away our two hr island visit, Make no mistake, the island is beautiful, the water so very clear. But when you are so sick, you don't really care.Another catamaran ride back, then a 1 hr bus ride, then, all of the reverse stops to drop everyone off. We were the last.Don't do this trip! Saona island did it right....speed boats, quick there, quick back and a sandbar in the middle of the ocean to pause, have fun and see starfish.Catalina.......bad, unless you don't mind seeing others around you vomit, and roll off of the boats, eat little and sleep before the hellish return.
Did the Chavon/Catalina cruise/tour with family and we really liked it. The Altos de Chavon little town (artificial) has nothing really interesting except the top vista on the river but the cruise on the river and then to the Catalina island with snorkeling stop was worth it. The lobster lunch on the beach was nice too. Yes it's a little touristy but the boats crew and the locals on the island make it fun. They were very nice and not pushy on anything. So it was very relaxing especially on the catamaran going back and forth to the island on the blue sea!
The snorkelling here is amazing. All other aspects of the excursions were as expected. Well run and an enjoyable excursion. It is a better option than Saona Island because the waters are calmer.
The trip was amazing. The beach at Catalina Island is prefect with a very warm water and great snorkelling attractions.
PROS: The scenery was gorgeous. Snorkeling and the banana boat was a blast.CONS: BUT... The restroom was scary. There was no light after closing the door. There was a big tub of brown water to wash you hands in, and I couldn't figure out how to flush, so I chose not to use the restroom. The food was just okay. Lots of attempts to sell pictures...even though we had our own camera and iphone. If you go to the island without needing to eat and don't go anywhere near the restroom, you'll have a great time.
I loved everything about it.The island so pristine, the relaxing massages on the beach, the swings at the bar,the colors of the sky and the ocean.a perfect day away from resort. We had great memories, also the catamaran drinks and dancer crew, made it very fun.
This was a great tour with lots of snorkellingand a great lunch on the islandThe guides were great and lots of fun
Catamaran was amazing..Crystal blue waters beautiful..felt a little insecure without a lifejacket...Did not enjoy the transfer from the catamaran to the water boat..Very unsafe..Boat was overcrowded with too much weight..we were only a short distance from the island, but anything could have went wrong..Manouvering from the water boat to the island was difficult as it was a deeper boat..If you had any balances issues at all, it would be extremely difficult getting out of the boat which I definitely struggled with!! Updated Safety practices need to be added to this excursion..Overall, the beauty captured the negatives.
