There were plently of large waves that made boogie boarding a blast. No waiting for the next big wave, they were coming about every 30 seconds. The only thing I didn't like was the number of vendors right on the beach.
We ate at "Mom's" and had the most wonderful fresh lobster (still moving) and shrimp! The beach is beautiful except for the garbage. Wish the Dominican's would put the garbage in cans or bags and not drop everything.
Wow! What a Gorgeous Beach! We went on a Safari tour and our last stop was boogie boarding at Macao Beach. Such fun!
Beautiful beach . Great place for sunset only did not like seaweed, even though was not that bad seen more in the states.
This beach is much quieter than some of the others we visited. Of course, there's plenty of vendors but that's "almost" unavoidable - on popular beaches. Lots of opportunities for pictures with monkeys, parrots, lizards, etc. Nominal fee. There were kid vendors selling handmade hats - hard to say no thanks! Water was shallow for a good distance, waved were manageable for most people (I am assuming)Lots of room to stake out an area for the day.
Beautiful beach, but bring umbrella, they charge you to rent. There are solicitors and they can get annoying. Only stayed 45minutes because we were on an excursion.
We went here as part of an excursion we were on and it was gorgeous...but had a STRONG undertow be careful. We were told this particular stretch of beach is untouched, and resorts are not allowed to build along there. It is breathtaking and I'm glad there is a spot that is not inhabited by tourists all the time. I got to see local families come and play at the beach.
The most beautiful sand and beautiful blue water. It's a great beach for taking a long walk. You have to be careful for the peddlers though. They are most persistent.
Visited Macao Beach during our recent trip to Dominican Republic in late February 2015 as part of our boogie adventure. It was one of the most beautiful and clean beaches that I have ever seen. The views of the water were breathtaking. Seems to be a popular beach for surfers as my husband & I spotted a few surfers riding the waves. It didn't bother us but it is worth mentioning that the locals use this beach to promote their different businesses (selling handmade hats, coconuts to quench your thirst or even taking a picture with a lizard). They are just trying to make a living so it didn't bother us at all but it may bother some people.
Its a bit a dangerous beach, but it is a really, really beautifull place! No hotels, so it's more visited by the dominicans from all around! We where there around christmas and it was amazing!!! Presidente, music and for track/buggies drive for visiting the places <3
This was a beautiful spot, but undertow was strong. And we were constantly bombarded by people selling hats, pics with parrots and monkeys, etc.
fantastic place for fantastik fotos! we were at Macao twice and liked everything: ocean, beach, food (lobsters frito are woooooooow!!)for 200% will come back!
Absolutely beautiful! Stopped at the beach during an excursion the view is amazing. Took photos with little monkey.
We took an excursion from Dreams La Romana called "Outback Safari"...we left the resort in a open air bus and spent the day in the countryside...visiting a school and a farm where we saw how coffee, chocolate, and cigars were made. The last part of the excursion was a stop at Macao Beach to boogie board in the surf for about 45 minutes. What a beautiful beach...the surf was perfect, the water was clean and warn...it was a very refreshing and fun end to the day!
No obvious warning signs, no markings in the see, no obvious life guard presence, inadequate rescue and resuscitation equipment. 4 young people drowned there on 1st March 2015.
