What a treat to find this museum! It's not huge but it has a lot to offer. There are many photographs as well as a wonderful collection of maritime artifacts, well-arranged so it's easy to explore. We happened to stop on a slow day for the museum, and the staff was just locking the door early when we arrived. They kindly opened up again for us and turned on the lights. Janice was nice, friendly and very informative. This was a great stop on our tour of the Lake Huron side of Michigan.

Rogers City has it's history. Come here to learn about the generations effected by the loss of ships. Our family of 6 was here for 1 hour. Tour guide was very friendly and informative. I was sad by the time I left to learn about all the men who died aboard those ships. Didn't realize that the Great Lakes Shipping industry was/is so hazardous.

The Great Lakes Lore Maritime Museum in Rogers City is a special find. Honoring people who have served in the Maritime and related Great Lakes Industries, the museum inducts people each year into the museum. Honorees are celebrated with a collage featuring their photos and other pertinent data. A special ceremony called The Gathering is held each August as part of the inductions. The museum is chock-full of other treasures, including ship models and artifacts, personal belongings and uniforms and all sorts of nautical items, as well as a collection of logging artifacts. There is a section on the U.S. Life-Saving Service and the US Coast Guard, and a Memorial Hall honoring those who have lost their lives on the Lakes. Rogers City has lost a number of locals, including 23 men of the 33 men lost in the sinking of the "Carl D. Bradley" in 1958. A bell with the names of those lost was placed on the wreck and the original bell brought up, which is now proudly on display in Memorial Hall. This museum was put together with love and care, and it shows. I also love the foyer, which is a re-creation of a freighter's wheelhouse. Stop on in and visit a while; you will be glad you did!

The museum is small and attached to a restaurant just like the Mackinaw Bridge Museum. Each year 32 sailor's are inducted and honored at the museum. Nice collection of photos, remnants and stories that have shaken that little town. The people who work there personally knew or know those who sail or have given their lives on our Great Lakes. Really a nice tribute to the Sailor's and a nice addition to Rogers City.
